Compiled by Hunee, 'Sounds from the Far East' features highly sought after material by legendary Japanese house producer Soichi Terada and fellow producers Shinichiro Yokota, Manabu Nagayama!Soichi Terada is an adventurous multitalent and over all a good sport. He was born in the sixties, and as a child he loved to play on his fathers’ electric organ. Terada majored in Computer Science and Electric Organ and after he graduated, he founded his Far East Recording in 1989, because he couldn't find a label for his compositions at that time. The sound of Far East Recording is very much inspired by early nineties US deep house. Soichi Terada went out to parties in the late eighties, were he was equally influenced by house and hip-hop. A few years later, Terada took on producing music by using digital sampling. In the early nineties he occasionally DJ-ed with a DAT player and some reel tapes, instead of using records and turntables."Sounds From The Far East" shines new light on Soichi Terada's label and consists of material that was originally released in the early nineties. Next to Terada's music, Hunee also selected a few tracks by fellow artist Shinichiro Yokota for this compilation, as well as 'Sun Showered', a track based on the incredible Paradise Garage gem called 'Sunshower', by Terada and Nami Shimada.
Naarm / Melbourne's Prequel has slipped out a few records thus far, and they've landed in all the right places. Rhythm Section, Local Talk, Distant Hawaii - you can get a feel for the kind of house music he's representing. And yet, as he shores up on Lumberjacks In Hell, what's most apparent is how far out he's prepared to go in pursuit of that deep feeling. 'I Still Love You' is a sprawling, delirious and spaced out exploration that belongs amongst the truly idiosyncratic outliers of house music - your Pepe Bradocks and Theo Parrishes. 'I Said I Wasn't Gonna Fall In Love No More' has a tighter groove, but it's still executed with a dislocated, psychedelic finish which stands well apart from the crowd. 'If You Give Me Another Chance' finds Prequel coming at a grab bag of samples from a crooked angle, but with enough jack to keep the wheels from coming off. Inspired stuff.
Ourra makes his lucky number 7th appearance for Planet Star Creature. Coming off a 6-peat, it's only fitting to tee up a swan song crown jewel of a heavy weight double LP full length extended off the richter black hole eclipse total density squared and cubed. A masterful journey through an acidic lens of future retro synth funk explosiveness. Where the deep house, synthwave and modern funk trifecta triangular apex penetrate boundaries of language, space, time and love to give us a joyful explosion of aural pleasure through our brain functions. 12 tracks on heavyweight vinyl. We only planned to press on black vinyl but the reaction of the music and the computers that make the records had some sort of cosmic lust thing on and about 100 or so came out in this deep space blue. The shade of blue that only exists for a split second in between night and day, just beyond the ozone layer, near the rim of the mariana trench.
Love Adventure is the debut modern funk EP from Austin, TX native and ABC founder Danny Spence. The album is a vision of beach boogie through an exotic lens; a warm combination of modern funk, hip-hop, and jungle sounds. The album is a chill yet funky listening experience, eliciting visions of summer afternoons and evenings by the beach.
Plasma Audio are rolling this year. They’ve racked up releases from the likes of Icicle, Safire, Rido, Proxima, Cursa, Fre4knc, Kolectiv and Survey and now they’ve got a heavy remix single from the mighty Alix Perez. Sabre’s track Yoga came out on Plasma in 2014 to critical acclaim and now it’s got a whole new lease of life, courtesy of Mr. Perez, with two new versions. Both remixes have manage hold on to plenty of the original’s wonkiness. The Club Mix creeps along with an irregular pace. Buzzing synths call out and reply to each other in a conversation, which builds up an abstract sonic landscape that bulges and swells as the track continues. The Warped mix brings more space to the track’s reinterpretation resulting in a more dubbed out feel accentuating the tracks sense of pace.
