Emotional Rescue returns to what it does best by unearthing musical gems of the British post punk scene with a double pack compilation of Bristol’s short lived Recreational Records.

Teaming up with Bristol Archive Records, 10 songs are remastered, reissued and cut loud for DJs and collectors. What is most striking is, although created in the space of just two years, with a disparate collection of artists, musicians and producers coming together, the music holds a considerable cohesive sound.

Set up in 1981 by Bristol based shop, Revolver Records, Recreational was formed as an independent label with its own distribution, as part of the co-operative, Cartel. The label was a natural progression from the shop’s punk’s DIY aesthetic, acting as a hang out and inspiration for local artists from Mark Stewart to later staff member, Daddy G.

First Babe Roots album perfectly executed. This is the perfect balance between dub structures and reggae rhythms.
Stix Records, a sub-label of Favorite Recordings, proudly presents Jazz-Funk Dub Tribute, a new project by Mato with exclusive Dub versions of some of the most famous Jazz-Funk, Soul-Jazz, Funk & Fusion tracks. After the amazing success of his Summer Madness / Maiden Voyage (2021) single, respectively covering Kool & The Gang and Herbie Hancock, Mato got deeper within the American Black Music repertoire. He worked on tracks that can be considered as serious classics of the Jazz-Funk scene. We all remember the melodies from Eddie Henderson ("Inside You"), WAR ("The World Is A Ghetto"), Weather Report ("Black Market"), Deodato ("Caravan"), Grover Washington Jr. ("Loran's Dance"), Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra ("Midnight Groove"), Herbie Hancock ("Maiden Voyage"), The Meters ("Cissy Strut") or Lonnie Liston Smith ("Visions Of A New World"). Imagine them reworked and tailored by the French dub master. Needless to say, Mato, who’s playing most instruments and synthesizers, did a fantastic job and you’ll be blown when hearing these versions.
Up next from Mood Hut we have the debut LP from Local Artist aka Ian Wyatt. Previously known for his underground party starters Dancer and Touch Tone. This time Ian takes us further towards the intimate end of the radio dial, recording music as a way of processing the emotions of watching his father and partner battle cancer pre-pandemic. Themes of love, loss and life emerge in a moody brew to help you through. In Local Artist’s world, the sun is setting on our old selves. Tonight is a slow ritual of letting go to gradually make room for the new. We’ve been up all night. It’s almost dawn and beyond the horizon, we can trust the light that morning brings.
As the 1970’s turned into the 1980’s Reggae’s beat took another turn, slowing down to allow more space for the music to breathe. The new sound became Reggae’s focus and the Roots Radics one of Jamaica’s finest session / backing bands were at the forefront of this radical change. The Roots Radics were based around the nucleus of Errol ’Flabba’ Holt( bass), Lincoln Valentine ‘Style’ Scott (drums) and Eric ‘Bingi Bunny’ Lamont (guitar). Holt and Bingi Bunny had previously been involved in the Morwells label set up and had cut some popular tunes such as Swine and Dine,They Hold Us Down and the great Kingston Twelve Tuffy. Before this Bunny had played for one of the other great Reggae sessions band the Channel One based Revolutionaires. It was the demise of this legendary band due to Sly and Robbie’s commitments to their own Taxi label that led to the formation of the Roots Radics. The Radics have worked with many different producers over the years including Linval Thompson with the series of alums Space Invaders Destroy the World and Win the World Cup. They also worked as Gregory Isaacs backing band and were responsible for the rhythms that made up his seminal Night Nurse set. Jamaican recordings have caught the Roots Radics for this set cutting rhythms in their favourite environment the famous Channel One Studios. On this occasion working with producer Ossie Thomasfor his own Black Solidarity label,a match made in Heaven.
