Heavy Machinery Records is proud to present 'PRIX', the debut LP from Melbourne electronic producer Jake Blood.

Jake Blood began DJing in Melbourne’s seediest night spots in 2006 under various aliases. Refining a record collection as time went on, Blood began sourcing classifieds for second hand drum machines, slowly building a techno rig. In 2010, he started playing improvised sets at Melbourne’s hottest late night clubs, pushing drum-heavy psychedelic acid techno.

In 2014, Blood had a serious bicycle accident, quietly ending his club journey. After playing post-recovery performances for Bunker, and supporting Yamantaka Eye and My Disco in Hobart for Dark Mofo, Blood relocated to the Victorian Alps. Here, he began a love affair with an MPC2000XL and yoga, concentrating on all things health-related and searching for a different groove. After spending time honing these new skills and playing illegal doofs in various forms, Blood moved back to the big smoke where he was forced into a universal state of isolation. During this isolation, Blood was able to reforge moods from the past with a level of positivity and forward thinking. With a refusal to follow the crowd and a content mindset, Blood crafts rough basslines, heavy kicks and shaky hats washed in alien synths and soaked in reverb to create a truly unique sound world.

Named after the visual artist whose work adorns the cover, 'PRIX' is a highly original atmospheric work of singular artistic vision. Eerily psychedelic and highly evocative, the album conjures a slowly shifting kaleidoscope of feelings and moods. A distant memory of a rave, a disconnection from reality, dissociation from the environment. A vessel of escape, taking the back streets to avoid the crowds, sound design twisted and crushed to its lowest fidelity. Moments sampled and resampled over and over; reliving the experience, losing definition with each replay. Swirling, reverberating solitude. An MPC2000XL crashing constantly, a bass with a broken string, some digital synths, FX, records and a tenor saxophone.

In 2018 Far Out Recordings signed a record deal with Brooklyn born, nomadic producer Jneiro Jarel. Having just put the finishing touches to the recordings, Jarel suffered an ischemic stroke while living and working in Costa Rica and his wife Indigo was forced to set up a crowd fund to cover special medical transport back to the states to receive treatment. The release was put on hold, but thanks to the generosity of friends and fans around the world, Jarel was able to get the care he needed and is now on the long road to recovery. We’re overjoyed to finally announce that Jneiro Jarel’s After A Thousand Years is now set for a May 2020 release.Throughout a career that has spanned over twenty years and seen collaborations with MF DOOM, Thom Yorke, Damon Albarn, BadBadNotGood, Portishead’s Beth Gibbons, Kimbra and Khujo Goodie (Dungeon Family), Jneiro Jarel’s consistently distinctive, forward thinking productions, as well as his love for the music of Brazil, made his partnership with Far Out a perfect fit.Recorded between New York, New Orleans, Miami and Costa Rica, After A Thousand Years features legendary multi-instrumentalist Bill Summers, famed for his work with Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones and Eddie Henderson. The album also features Malawian-American guitarist Masauko Chipembere who has worked with the likes of RZA from Wu-Tang Clan and Ladybug Mecca from Digable Planets. For Jarel, After A Thousand Years is “a culmination of the longstanding musical contributions of the African diaspora.” Permeating the Brazilian music and Latin jazz Jarel has loved and drawn inspiration from, as well as the stateside jazz, soul and funk Jarel grew up around, the influence of Africa and it’s musical history, on both North and South America, is key to the album’s sound. On lead single “Banana Peel”, Jarel’s outernational perspective makes for a track that is almost impossible to place geographically: you can hear the swing of Jarel’s native New Orleans jazz, the vibrance of Costa Rican rainforests as well as the influence of Jarel’s vast collection of Brazilian records. “Viberian Waves 1&2” is equally nonconformist, morphing from funky baroque-flavoured instrumental hip hop into a bossa inspired, percussive jam.Taking its inspiration from the biblical prophecies found in the books of Isaiah, Daniel, and Revelation, foretelling the fully realized, physical and spiritual restoration of the earth and mankind after the thousand year reign of the Messianic Kingdom, After A Thousand Years contemplates and celebrates a world where everlasting love, peace, and harmony abound under a sovereign, divine rulership.

Over 10 years in the making, Yesterday Is Heavy is the cumulative product of an expansive career of collaborations and solo material, while finally acknowledging the spotlight with a fully-realized sound of his own. Silva's debut is about stepping outside of a comfort zone, and, outside of himself. It’s an album of heft and heart, but most of all hope – and trusting the process that led him to this point. Buoyed by the encouragement of long-time collaborators like Jamie Woon and Sampha early in his career (they both implored him to commit his own voice to record), and bolstered by experiences working alongside Mark Ronson, Adele and more, the Lil Silva story is now coming full circle. Created primarily in the town he grew up in (and continues to live now), the pervading solace of home courses through the project, while providing the thrilling moments of sleight of hand that Silva has always been capable of. As he so often does, Lil Silva shares the spotlight with an astonishing cast of sonically-diverse guests. He fuses well-versed modern UK and European legends in the shape of Sampha, Ghetts, and Little Dragon with rising stars like serpentwithfeet, Charlotte Day Wilson and Montreal's Skiifall to thrilling effect, while maintaining his own deft dynamic throughout. The album has also been created with musical direction from Louis Vuitton musical director and BBC Radio 1 tastemaker Benji B
While the previous opus already showed the tourangeau’s scale of virtuosity, this new Maxi “Take Off” enlightens his capability to showcase the other’s talent. Collaborating with Madelyn Grant, Jordan Rakei, or Damon Trueitt, FKJ succeeds in expressing his own music through the voices of accomplished artists.
