Dwight Thompson’s album Hypocrisy took hearts by storm in the 70's. The soulful, charismatic singer hailing from the USA released his ground-breaking Album “Hypocrisy” in 1975 on the Dutch Label Poker.A well sought after pearl of deep funk and soul on a small, misty label from the Netherlands. After the Deeptrax / Deepgrooves- crew met Dwight in Berlin by accident on a beautiful day in April 2019 on a sunny terrace, they kept in contact and planned a reissue of his classic album that is released now under their newfound label ReGrooved.
NFRACom!, one of the longest operating independent labels in Germany, celebrates its 30yrs anniversary with a vinyl compilation consisting of tracks that have never been released on vinyl before. Label co-founder Jan Hagenkötter handpicked these from various artist in the catalog, true to the spirit of the label and its operator – We couldn ́t save the entire planet but we still like to save your soul. Most of the tracks included in the compilation were released on CD only and then digitally in the so-called 2000s or noughties. it was very difficult to release any album on vinyl during that period due to the situation in the music market where the transition from physical to digital products and the piracy phenomenon took place. Fortunately, today the different formats can co-exist again.
The rare lost legacy of the Music Makers Band – a funky group from Georgia who are best known under their previous incarnation as The Mighty Chevelles – who cut the superb Black Gold album the year before! The work here was never issued at the time, but represents some well-done sessions at the legendary Capricorn Studios – the group even sharper than before, and mixing in some clubby elements with their funk – but all without ever losing the edge that made them great in the first place! Kenny Dope remastered all the work here from the original multi-track masters – and each tune is presented in a well-crafted vocal version, and the set also features instrumentals, plus some extended mixes by Kenny as well.
Formed in 2014 as a side-project to iconic Melbourne soul band Saskwatch under the name ‘The Let Your Hair Down Girls’, the group served as a vehicle for the instrumental impulses of the band’s rhythm and horn sections. In the ensuing years, the group held down a reputation as Melbourne’s ‘pub soul’ staple, brazenly introducing psych funk, cinematic soul and boogaloo sounds to the beer-drenched haunts that prop up Melbourne’s rock ‘n’ roll scene. After a hiatus born from the touring commitments of the increasingly in-demand players within the group, the project was was revived with the addition of fellow travellers Hudson Whitlock (Karate Boogaloo) and Lachlan Stuckey (Surprise Chef), and a full-length LP of the band’s percussive instrumental soul committed to tape over a weekend in Karate Boogaloo’s infamous attic studio.Produced by Henry Jenkins (Karate Boogaloo, Mo’Ju), the production mind behind all College Of Knowledge recordings, Waiting Room moves deftly through moments of fuzzed-out psychedelia, dusty deep soul backbeat and incendiary minor key funk.
