While Edan’s critically acclaimed debut, ‘Primitive Plus’, was a celebration of hip-hop’s golden age and a true throwback, his sophomore album, ‘Beauty And The Beat’, is a vast musical collage that contains many different influences; hip-hop, rock, pop, dusty breaks, hazy loops, luxurious off-kilter samples and curveball tempo changes that are all crafted into one cohesive piece of art.In 2015, FACT placed it at number 30 on the "100 Best Indie Hip-Hop Records of All Time" list. In 2013 NME placed it at number 392 on the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list.
This is a match made in G-funk heaven and easily the biggest collab on Stones Throw since 'Lib & MF (but on a much bigger and funkier scale). On 7 Days Of Funk Snoop, err.. SnoopZILLA returns to the G-funk roots of Doggystyle with Dam-Funk laying down the funk PROPER. Snoop & D-F are incredible solo artists in every respect, but when the two combine forces it's magic. It was a long time coming, and glad to see the two finally connected and created not only a couple tracks, but an entire album that captures the essence of the funk from the real ambassadors of the sound. Check "Faden Away," "Hit Da Pavement," "Let It Go," "Ride," and "Systamatic" for a taste, but really the whole album bangs. Guest spots from Kurupt, Tha Dogg Pound, Steve Arrington, and Bootsy Collins!
DRPN GEMS is back again with another summer BBQ heat rock. On the A side label boss Wally Puma gives the Queen of R&B/Hip Hop an uptempo call & response treatment. Drawing from a more mellow previous mix he sprinkles the magic dust on the update and turns it into a prime time banger.Following the lead of the A side, Jim Sharp takes a mellow classic from Luigi’s brother and puts the boom and the bap into it, which gangsters will love. Yet again another couple of gems to drop on em'!.
