THE STRICTLY JAZ UNIT (GU & BOO WILLIAMS) presents "THE TEMPEST, an epic album masterpiece of electronic dance music. Every track is naturally dynamic with sonic rich musicality & keyboard melodies. Most likely the last LP of the SJU collective.
Digital Afrika return to the fray with this incredible EP for ASW. Featuring the original Gnawa plus it’s acoustic source recording as performed by Radouan Naim in Morocco PLUS two truly excellent remixes from the legendary Jose Marquez and Melbourne’s own TEYMORI (Amin Payne). The original source recording for this track was laid down in Planet Essaouira and recorded by Zhonu “Nui” Moon (Digital Afrika ) on one of his many cultural trips to his ancestral home land. The studio is situated on the Moroccan coastal town of Essaouira , a cultural hub for the Berber (indigenous Moroccan) traditions. This enigmatic town , popularised by the beatniks and bohemians of the 60ʼs, most famously by Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones , has a mystique all its own as well as a long musical history.“Gnawa” in Berber language literally translates as “Trance“ music , and is traditionally performed in “Lilas” musical ceremonies accompanied by dance that can go on for days .. where the purpose is to produce trance-like states of being where different types of healing or catharsis can occur ..The recording was then brought back to Melbourne, Australia. Where the Digital Africa team applied its electronic Afro-house touches , while keeping true to its original North African aesthetic.
Teleporting himself back into the physical realm for our subliminal listening pleasure, NonEntity’s first full release on Australia's Uncomfortable Beats imprint transcends bass and time. A brainchild of the Melbourne artist alternatively known as U-Wish, ‘Shut Down, Restart’ has been pressed to wax and is being distributed by the UK’s most hallowed dub/bass purveyors, White Peach.Expect mad scientist samples and crackles of artificial intelligence, shot through with ghosts of dubplates past, staggering through deep sludge and sonic space wobble across nine interstellar tracks.Japan-based aerosol artist and designer Benjamin Knock breathed fire and life into the album artwork; a manifestation of the deep seeded connection between the consumption of technology/machines adding to the changing planets current situation and the dark art unfolding for future generations. Maybe we all need to hit "Shut Down, Restart".
Limited edition of 300 copies on black vinyl in gatefold sleeve! When being described as “Hardly a typical album, primarily a beat tape in the spirit of Dilla's Donuts. An intriguing album that is a testament to his talent.” by Resident Advisor shortly after its original release in 2011, Flako's release left a lasting impression on many and marked the beginning of an exciting career as a music writer and producer.10 years later and with a vastly diverse and colorful catalogue of solo releases, as well as stunning productions for other artists across the world and all genres, this album hasn’t lost much of its original flavor. Now considered a classic, “The Mesektet” is getting a complete revamp in form of a 2LP Gatefold Edition including three exclusive newly unearthed beats and retrospective collection of photos by Robert Winter.
