Marijata was a group made up of three members – Kofi 'Electric' Addison on drums, Bob Fischlan on organ and Nat Osmanu on guitar, hailing from Ghana. ‘This Is Marijata’ is the groups first LP; released originally on the Gapophone label – it is pure, rootsy, raw, driving African funk music of the highest order, now highly sought-after in both its original and previously reissued forms.Personnel: Drums – Kofi 'Electric' Addison / Guitar – Nat Osmanu / Organ – Bob Fischlan / Recording Engineer – F. KwaakyeProduced in 1976 at Gapophone Records, Accra, Ghana. Recorded At Ghana Film Industry Corp. Studios. Licensed from George Prah, founder of Gapophone Records. Official Mr Bongo reissue. On the original pressing the sides were incorrectly labelled. On this version they are correctly labelled. The artwork apart from this point, is replica.
Afternoon Sun Limited Edition1000 copies world wideSunset orange and red marble wax Printed on deluxe 350gsm heavy board with matte finishHoused in a custom printed 100% recyclable brown cardboard sleeve‘Changing Colours’, the brand-new album from Babe Rainbow, is a leap forward in every way. The band have consolidated all that is wonderful about their previous music and pushed further in each direction.Think the type of music that was floating down from Laurel Canyon in the early 70s, as Crosby, Stills and Nash waited for Young to wander back from the forest. Think The Beach Boys after they had packed up the surfboards, ditched their LA label, and moved to the hills to practice TM and smoke Californian grass. Think Joni.
Originally released on EMI Sweden in 1970, this was Doris’ lone solo album. A Swedish funk / psych / jazz rarity, it attracted little attention upon its initial release and seemed doomed to obscurity, but thanks to crate-digging DJs and a Mr Bongo 1996 reissue, it has since seen a new lease of life as a highly prized cult classic amongst record collectors. The album presents a unique blend of pop, jazz, funk and soul, containing more than a hint of Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin and the like. Backed by her husband Lukas Lindholm on bass Doris was able to lay down some seriously funky bass lines on tracks like ‘Don't’ and ‘Beatmaker’. On ‘You Never Come Closer’, an experimental track that was way ahead of its time, Janne Carlsson unleashes a fearsome sound on drums helped by Bernot Egerladh on organ.‘You Never Come Closer’ was sampled on ‘Closer’ by influential hip-hop producer Madlib for Quasimoto. This has led to Doris' work becoming increasingly popular amongst underground hip-hop fans.‘Did You Give The World Some Love Today, Baby’ is more than just a curiosity, it’s an overlooked gem, showcasing a singer with a distinctive voice, great range and charm.
